MEMPHIS, TN – A 21-year-old man is facing charges of child endangerment and aggravated assault after authorities say he held his daughter over a balcony during a June domestic incident and later threatened to “shoot up” the apartment where his child’s mother and other kids were staying at the time.
On July 24th, Duriell Williams was arrested under charges of aggravated assault and child endangerment in connection with a June 6th incident which reportedly occurred at the residence of his child’s mother at the Washington Manor Apartments in South Memphis.
According to authorities, Williams arrived at the apartment and asked his child’s mother if he could hold the 5-month-old girl while they talked outside.
Standing outside of the second-story apartment building, the complainant told police Williams held their daughter by her feet and dangled her over the railing, allegedly saying, “You don't think I'd throw her over the railing?”
The child’s mother was able to secure the child and made her way back into the apartment building, which is when Williams allegedly “threatened to shoot up the apartment” if the woman didn’t come back outside.
Concerned for her safety and that of the children inside of the home, the woman walked back outside in an effort to appease Williams’ alleged demands.
Upon returning outside, Williams allegedly pointed a firearm at the woman, “asking if she was ready to die,” according to the police report. However, the presence of nearby neighbors during the outside incident led to Williams fleeing the scene.
Local reports note that Williams was also previously indicted back in May of 2024 for attempted aggravated assault, which saw him arrested three months later in August before being released on a $15,000 bond.
Williams is currently housed at the Shelby County Jail, with his bond set at $100,500 for the two charges he’s currently facing. The suspect’s next appearance in court is slated for August 4th.
