Philadelphia Cop Caught in Violent Chaos After He Clocked Off

PHILADELPHIA, PA - On Sunday, July 6th, three people were injured by gunfire when 27 shots were fired at a large gathering in North Philadelphia.

Police said that a man was shot in the back and thigh, while a teen boy and teen girl both suffered gunshot wounds as well, according to NBC10. All three victims were transported to the hospital and remain in stable condition. The shooting erupted around 1:30 a.m. along the 2200 block of Edgely Street in North Philadelphia.

Police said they had to break up the gathering when they arrived on scene. In an update, officials confirmed that the incident was also connected to a crash that left an off-duty officer injured. In that incident, an off-duty officer's vehicle was struck by a vehicle that ran a red light near the scene of the triple shooting.

The vehicle that struck the off-duty officer's vehicle had a windshield that had been shattered by a gunshot and the driver fled after the collision, police said. That vehicle was recovered by police. The off-duty officer was transported to the hospital and remains in stable condition.

The investigation into both incidents remain ongoing and police have yet to identify any suspects. The mother of the injured teen girl said her daughter is now out of the hospital and recovering at home. "And she said it felt like fire or something tearing through her back, and she thought she was going to die," the mother Virginia said.

"The seriousness of knowing that your child didn't almost make it home changes the dynamics of life for a parent and a child," she said. "Y'all need to stop with these guns. This is not no joke. It's not no game. I don't know what y'all thinking, but please stop," Virginia added.
