Portland local Cloud Elvengrail has apparently had her fill with respect to the ongoing protests taking place outside an ICE facility located at 4310 S. Macadam Ave., as the woman claims the round-the-clock noise generated by the anti-ICE protesters has gone far beyond mere annoyance and has escalated to a form of “torture.”
With city officials, and by extension police, not doing anything substantive to quell the noise generated by the protesters, Elvengrail now hopes a lawsuit will motivate Portland officials into taking action. Elvengrail’s attorney, Julie Parrish, described the constant protests near her client’s home as, “shrill, and bells, and whistles, and air raid siren sounds.”
Parrish says the message behind the lawsuit is simple, in that city officials allowing these protests to continue in the manner they are is a dereliction of duty and the time has come for the city to put a stop to the barrage of noise intruding upon locals.
“This is straight up a lawsuit to ask a judge to tell the city to do your job,” Parrish told local news outlet KPTV, “Do your job. To me, this is a life safety issue for my client, it’s a life safety issue for the people who live in the building, and it’s a life safety issue for the people who work in and around all of those buildings.”
Elvengrail made headlines back in June prior to filing the lawsuit after the woman directly confronted the anti-ICE protesters responsible for the noise in her neighborhood. Video of Elvengrail’s confrontation made the rounds online, where the woman could be seen yelling at the anti-ICE protesters and calling them “worse than ICE” and saying, “we the people need sleep!”
In a statement shared with local news outlet KGW regarding the lawsuit, Elvengrail said, “I am living in constant pain. My ears are ringing, the sound is so loud it made my left ear bleed, and there is no peace or quiet because the sound weapons they're using day and night are killing us.”
Elvengrail’s attorney did make a point to emphasize the lawsuit isn’t meant to deter lawful protests, but to put an end to what she and her client feel is tantamount to “weaponized noise” pollution, telling news outlet KGW, “She's not saying that people shouldn't stand out there and wave their signs and supportive honks every now and then coming through - that's not what this is. She wants the weaponized noise to stop. She wants the city of Portland to come and do their job.”
City officials have yet to comment on the lawsuit.
