The suspect “was so violent they had to be sedated,” before going the hospital after the incident, police said, per KATU.
Although the suspect is a biological male who identifies as transgender, according to The Post Millennial's Andy Ngo, local media has called the suspect a “woman.”
The series of incidents began around 7:30 pm near Southwest Naito Parkway and Ankeny Street, where police say the suspect cut a person on the hand with a knife. The victim walked to the Portland Police Bureau’s Central Precinct and was later taken to a hospital for treatment.
Shortly after, officers responded to a report of someone threatening people with a stick near Southwest Ankeny Street and 2nd Avenue.
According to the outlet, witness Jenniffer Dieringer, who personally knew the suspect, said the individual was drinking in a nearby bar and declared, “I’m going to go to prison for killing somebody.” The suspect then reportedly began attacking a man walking nearby.
As officers arrived on the scene, a passing truck stopped due to the commotion. When a passenger exited the vehicle to see what was happening, the suspect allegedly punched him in the face and struck him with a staff, Dieringer said.
Police intervened and used a stun device twice to subdue the suspect and take the individual into custody. Dieringer said the suspect “was so far out of control” and that nothing would calm down the suspect.
