The death toll from flash flooding that struck the region of Country Hill in Texas as well as a Christian summer camp for children on July 4 has climbed to over 50, and over two dozen are still missing.
The dead include 18 adults and 14 children, according to CBS News. At least 27 are still missing. Rescue operations have continued through Saturday, with 850 being rescued without injuries and 8 people have been rescued with injuries. Between 23 and 25 people were missing from Camp Mystic as of Saturday afternoon, a Christian summer camp that many young girls were staying at when the floods struck.
Of those that are dead, five adults as well as three children have not been identified. There have been over 160 air rescues as the flooding has made many roadways impassible. Som of those that have been rescued since the flooding began have been hanging on trees when they were found, Texas Governor Greg Abbott said in a news conference.
President Donald Trump posted to Truth Social amid the disaster, saying, "The Trump Administration is working with State and Local Officials on the ground in Texas in response to the tragic flooding that took place yesterday. Our Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, will be there shortly."
"Melania and I are praying for all of the families impacted by this horrible tragedy. Our Brave First Responders are on site doing what they do best. GOD BLESS THE FAMILIES, AND GOD BLESS TEXAS!" he added.
According to city officials, the Guadalupe River in Hunt, Texas reached the second highest level it has been recorded at and the flood waters reached higher than the well-known 1987 flood. The National Weather Service "did not predict the amount of rain that we saw," officials said during a news conference on the flooding.
