North Carolina Cops Honored For Daring Rescue of Drowned Child

SHALLOTTE, NC - Two police officers with the Shallotte Police Department (SPD) are being honored for their heroic actions after saving a child who drowned over the weekend.

On Tuesday, June 3rd, Sergeant Jeremy Ferguson and Officer Christopher Brown were given the Life Saving Award at the Shallotte Board meeting for rescuing a child who had drowned, WECT reported. SPD said that the two officers responded to an alarm at the Cardinal Pointe Clubhouse on Sunday, June 1st.

Upon arriving at the scene, a bystander informed the officers that there was an unresponsive child in the pool. Thanks to their training and quick thinking, the officers pulled the child from the pool and began administering CPR. The officers called Emergency Services and after three minutes of CPR, the child started breathing on her own.

"Two courageous police officers with the Shallotte Police Department were honored with the Life Saving Award for their swift and heroic actions in rescuing a child from a life-threatening situation, demonstrating exceptional bravery and quick thinking in the face of danger," SPD said in a Facebook post. "Thank you, Officer Brown and Sergeant Ferguson, for your service."

"Officer Brown quickly pulled the child from the water, while Sergeant Ferguson checked for a pulse and called for EMS. Officer Brown initiated CPR, cycling compressions and draining water from the child's airway... Their swift, decisive actions directly saved a life and reflect great credit upon themselves and the Shallotte Police Department," SPD added.
