Ex-NFL player sentenced to 30 years in prison for girlfriend’s brutal murder

A former NFL player has pleaded guilty to brutally murdering his girlfriend and has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

According to KTRK, Kevin Ware Jr., a former tight end for the Washington Redskins and San Francisco 49ers, reached a plea deal on Wednesday for the 2021 death of 29-year-old Taylor Pomaski.

Pomaski was last seen during a party at her Houston home on April 25, 2021, NBC Houston reported. Authorities had said that she disappeared under suspicious circumstances. Later that year, on July 28, Ware was indicted for murder and tampering with evidence in connection with the death. In December 2021, human remains were found in a ditch in Harris County, which were identified as Pomaski.

Court documents stated that Ware had "cut her with a knife, hit her with a blunt object, strangled her and then burned her corpse."

In December 2022, Ware pleaded guilty to drug and weapons charges in Montgomery County that were issued in connection with an April 2021 incident. He was pulled over for speeding, traveling at 115 mph, and a search of the vehicle by a deputy revealed a loaded AK-47, other guns, and drugs like cocaine and meth.

He was subsequently charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and possession with intent to deliver/manufacture a controlled substance and was sentenced to 15 years in prison. He was out on bond when Pomaski disappeared.

An ex-boyfriend said at the time Pomaski disappeared that he believed she was in an abusive relationship. "Taylor reached out to me many times throughout the month of April. We were talking about her getting out of there, getting back on her feet, getting herself set and stabilized," Eric Zuleger told KHOU11.
