NEW: Federal judge allows Trump admin to purge USAID staffers

A federal judge has cleared the way for the Trump administration to place staffers at the US Agency for International Development (USAID) on leave as well as recall many employees from around the world.

According to The Hill, US District Judge Carl Nichols removed his temporary pause order that had halted the purge of USAID staffers from their positions. He argued that the unions representing the federal employees in USAID had "overstated" the harm caused by the Trump administration in the mass suspension of employment.

“Weighing plaintiffs’ assertions on these questions against the government’s is like comparing apples to oranges,” Nichols wrote in the order. “Where one side claims that USAID’s operations are essential to human flourishing and the other side claims they are presently at odds with it, it simply is not possible for the Court to conclude, as a matter of law or equity, that the public interest favors or disfavors an injunction.”

The judge added that the unions did not prove that the Trump administration — which has been moving to cut waste and fraud in government spending with DOGE — caused irreparable harm to the employees.
