9-year-old arrested in connection with armed carjacking, robbery in Baltimore

On Sunday, Baltimore police arrested three juveniles and two adult suspects in connection to an armed carjacking and robbery spree in Southeast Baltimore. A 9-year-old boy was among those apprehended, authorities said.

A 32-year-old female victim called 911 to report a carjacking near the 3900 block of East Lombard Street around 2:05 pm. She claimed four male suspects approached her vehicle when it was stopped at a stop sign at Grundy and Bank Street. One suspect, described as a white male, allegedly smashed her window with a metal object. The suspect then dragged the woman out of her vehicle and fled in the victim's car, police said, as reported by Fox Baltimore.

Baltimore police officers located the vehicle around 3:10 pm, which was being occupied by five individuals. The suspects fled on foot. Following a brief foot pursuit, officers arrested two male adults aged 21 and 19, and three male minors aged 16, 15, and 9.

Officers later discovered that the same suspects were allegedly responsible for an attempted unarmed robbery and assault in the 100 block of South Robinson Street, which occurred shortly after the armed carjacking of the 32-year-old woman, according to police.

Authorities said the 21, 19, and 16-year-old suspects were booked into the Central Booking Intake Facility, while the 15-year-old boy was transported to the Department of Juvenile Services. The 9-year-old boy was released to his parents.

Fox Baltimore warned its audience in a separate report about an epidemic of juvenile carjackings that is currently impacting the metropolitan area. On Saturday, four juveniles armed with a gun and knife carjacked an Uber driver on the 1700 block of North Milton Avenue.

Jay Jackson, a Baltimore resident, expressed outrage at the ongoing juvie crime spree. He and his wife were the victims of an attempted carjacking last year, while his sister was robbed and had her car windows smashed last week. "I don't want to whisper," said Jackson. "I want to yell, get out of here!"

The resident said his family has taken it upon themselves to act as security in the area. "We're getting together as a family. We literally come through here on a regular basis, like we get paid for being security," said Jackson.
