Marvel’s new queer series ‘Agatha All Along’ to be ‘gay explosion’

A new superhero show is coming to Disney+, and it has been dubbed the "gayest project Marvel has ever done."

The cast and crew of "Agatha All Along" are celebrating its queer title, explaining that the show has a lot of layers "and gay is one of them." The mini-series, which is set to release on Sept. 25, is about a witch who regains their supernatural powers with the help of a teen.

Actress Aubrey Plaza, most famous for her role on Parks and Rec, told Variety at the premiere on Monday that "Agatha" will be "a gay explosion by the end of it."

Sasheer Zamata, who plays Jennifer Kale and came out as queer in an interview earlier this month, added: "You'll see when you watch."

"Witches are queer, inherently, just because we are outcasts and set aside for many reasons. This show shows a really good representation of different types of people and that we can all use the power we have within to go forward and be great," Zamata said. "I've always looked up to Wanda Sykes as another black queer woman in comedy living her truth is really inspiring and awesome. I feel proud to be amongst a lot of great people who do that openly."

Actor Joe Locke, who plays Teen and also came out as gay this year, explained to Variety, "It's really nice to just have these positive queer characters."

The series, he explained, has "many layers and gay is one of them. That's one of the great things about the show. Teen is a queer guy on the show, but it's not the driving force, which I think is really great."

Kathryn Hahn, the actress who plays the lead character Agatha Harkness, added that the most exciting thing about the show is that the storyline is not exactly about being "queer," but rather it's just "so normalized."

Actress Ali Ahn, who plays Alice Wu-Gulliver, also sounded off on the show's queerness, describing it as "the gayest show on Marvel."
