House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) submitted proposals Monday that would defund the prosecutors behind the Democrat lawfare campaigns against former President Donald Trump.
In a letter to House Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole, Jordan raised concerns about the “lawfare” tactics of the Democrat prosecutors leading the four cases against Trump, referring to special counsel Jack Smith, New York Attorney General Letitia James, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
“We have conducted oversight of the troubling rise in politicized prosecutions and the use of abusive ‘lawfare’ tactics to target political opponents. We have seen rogue prosecutors abuse the rules of professional conduct and their duty to do justice in service of politicized ends,” Jordan wrote.

“We recommend that the Appropriations Committee, with appropriate consultation from leadership, include language to eliminate federal funding for state prosecutors or state attorneys general involved in lawfare and to zero out federal funding for federal prosecutors engaged in such abuse.”
“In addition, the Judiciary Committee has passed specific bills that would help to address politicized prosecutions and we encourage the Appropriations Committee to consider including the policies contained in each: H.R. 2553, the No More Political Prosecutions Act, and H.R. 2595, the Forfeiture Funds Expenditure Transparency Act,” he added.
The proposals also include a provision to deny funding for a new incoming FBI headquarters in Greenbelt, Maryland over its “egregious abuses” of power and “misconduct” at the leadership level.
“We recommend that the Appropriations Committee include language to eliminate any funding for the FBI that is not essential for the agency to execute its mission, including rescinding prior appropriations and prohibiting new taxpayer funding for any new FBI headquarters facility,” Jordan wrote.
“We also recommend tying funding for the FBI to specific policy changes—such as requiring the FBI to record interviews—that will promote accountability and transparency at the FBI.”
The proposals also seek to “prohibit the funding of politically sensitive investigations, protect whistleblowers against retaliation, prevent taxpayer funds from being used to implement radical regulations, prohibit the funding of disastrous Biden immigration policies, and stop the funding of government censorship.”
The proposals sent to the House Appropriations Committee would be included in the fiscal year 2025 appropriations bills.
Users online were divided over the development, with some welcoming the news as a productive step in the right direction, while others panned the move as “too little too late” and “performative” for an election year.
