Missouri teen Kaylee Gain suffers frontal lobe damage after brutal beating, ‘#FreeMaurnice’ posts allege teen arrested was bullied

Kaylee Gain, 16, has been identified as the girl who had her head struck against the concrete by a 15-year-old girl near Hazelwood East High School in Missouri. The 15-year-old was arrested on assault charges and has been identified by some students on social media as Maurnice DeClue. A few social media users associated with the school have also started using "#FreeMaurnice," alleging that the teen was bullied by Gain. Gain was also reportedly bullied at the school.

Gain is in critical condition as of early this week at the hospital and GoFundMe pages have raised over $285,000 to support her. She has frontal lobe damage, a fractured skull, and brain bleed, according to local media.

15-year-old Maurnice DeClue has been identified by some students associated with Hazelwood East High School as the girl who caused the injuries to Kaylee. This is consistent with an investigation into various social media profiles of students at the school done by The Post Millennial which suggested a girl with the name "Maurnice" was the teen arrested.

Posts associated with social media profiles connected to Maurnice posted #FreeMaurnice as well. The account posted to its story, "#FREEMAURNICE" and talked about the different back and forth bullying and fights that went on at the school. The account claimed that it was not about race and that Kaylee "lowkey deserved it," and added that Gain was suspended before for fights previously. It alleged that the two met up to fight off campus.

Allegations of bullying perpetrated by other students towards Gain have also been reported by news outlets.

A friend of Gain said online that she had been added to "group chats" where students at the school were "talking about her [and] tormenting her basically."

The friend of the victim in critical condition added that the school did not take action to stop it.

Sophomore Shalimar Ross at Hazelwood East also told reporters that Gain had been recently bullied at the school.

A private account, appearing to be in a relationship with Maurnice from TPM’s investigation, put in his bio "#FreeMaurnice."

One other account belonging to an account associated with the school, although it did not use the hashtag, said, "Free my baby she aint do sh*t" in response to a post about the incident.
