The incident involved Astronomer CEO Andy Byron being seen on the concert’s big screen hugging HR chief Kristin Cabot during a Coldplay show, both of whom are reportedly married. The moment drew attention when Coldplay frontman Chris Martin jokingly called them out onstage for "having an affair." A video of the exchange quickly went viral due to their failed attempts to shield themselves from the camera.
Both Byron and Cabot have since resigned from their roles at the company.
Paltrow, who was previously married to Coldplay singer Chris Martin, made a surprise appearance in a sarcastic video posted on Astronomer’s LinkedIn page. Introduced as a “temporary spokesperson,” Paltrow humorously addressed the scandal by redirecting questions about the incident to business aspects of the company.
"Thank you for your interest in Astronomer. Hi, I'm Gwyneth Paltrow,” she says at the start of the video. “I've been hired on a very temporary basis to speak on behalf of the 300-plus employees at Astronomer.”
The video cuts between on-screen text of questions regarding the scandal, followed by Paltrow’s comedic replies promoting the company’s services.
"OMG! What the actual f*ck,” one prompt reads, which Paltrow interrupts with, “Yes! Astronomer is the best place to run Apache Airflow.”
"We've been thrilled so many people have a newfound interest in data workflow automation,” she joked.
Another question starts with, “How is your social media team holding–” before Paltrow cuts in again, promoting the company’s upcoming Beyond Analytics event.
“We will now be returning to what we do best... delivering game-changing results for our customers. Thank you for your interest in Astronomer,” she concluded.
