Actor Kevin Spacey on Tuesday called for the Epstein files to be released. This comes after the FBI and Department of Justice concluded that infamous financier Jeffrey Epstein killed himself in 2019, and that there was no client list.
"Release the Epstein files. All of them. For those of us with nothing to fear, the truth can’t come soon enough. I hate to make this about me — but the media already has," Spacey wrote.
The topic of files on Epstein came back into the spotlight over the weekend after a leaked memo from the FBI and DOJ stated that "This systematic review revealed no incriminating 'client list.' There was also no credible evidence found that Epstein blackmailed prominent individuals as part of his actions. We did not uncover evidence that could predicate an investigation against uncharged third parties."
The memo later added, "After a thorough investigation, FBI investigators concluded that Jeffrey Epstein committed suicide in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City on August 10, 2019. This conclusion is consistent with previous findings, including the August 19, 2019 autopsy findings of the New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the November 2019 position of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York in connection with the investigation of federal correctional officers responsible for guarding Epstein, and the June 2023 conclusions of DOJ's Office of the Inspector General."
Among documents released in 2024 were a list of Epstein’s acquaintances and associates, with Spacey’s name being listed alongside other Hollywood stars such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Cameron Diaz and Cate Blanchett, per Variety. Those listed were not accused of facilitating Epstein’s sex trafficking ring, per Variety.
Spacey has not worked in Hollywood since several men accused him of sexual misconduct starting in 2017. In 2022, a New York jury concluded that Spacey did not molest actor Anthony Rapp, and a UK court in 2023 found Spacey not guilty of nine charges of sexual assault from four complainants. Other charges and lawsuits have been dropped.
Speaking with Piers Morgan in June 2024, Spacey explained that he came to fly on private jets owned by Epstein through his work with a foundation operated by former President Bill Clinton. Spacey said he believed Epstein put Clinton "at risk," and said that there were "young girls" on the planes with them. He said at the time that he did not know who Epstein was until recently, and that they were never friends.
