The United States will be imposing sanctions on the United Nations (UN) special rapporteur on human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, who has criticized Israel’s actions in its war with terrorist group Hamas, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on July 9.
“Today I am imposing sanctions on UN Human Rights Council Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese for her illegitimate and shameful efforts to prompt [International Criminal Court] action against U.S. and Israeli officials, companies, and executives,” Rubio wrote in a statement posted to the social media platform X.
