After more than a week of ambivalence about the United States’ intentions after Israel carried out strikes on Iran, President Donald Trump announced on June 21 that the United States had struck nuclear facilities in Iran.
The strikes targeted the nuclear sites Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan.
Trump said that U.S. planes were now out of Iranian airspace and called for peace.
Israel has said that Iran could be just weeks away from obtaining a nuclear weapon. The International Atomic Energy Agency announced on June 13 that Iran had enriched Uranium-235 to 60 percent, approaching the 90 percent threshold for weapons-grade nuclear enrichment. Trump has said Iran was weeks to months away from a nuclear bomb.
