US Army reaches 2025 recruiting goal four months early

The US Army has reached its active-duty recruiting goal for fiscal year 2025 four months ahead of schedule, signing contracts with 61,000 new soldiers.

“This achievement represents a significant turning point for the Army and indicates a renewed sense of patriotism and purpose among America’s youth,” the Army said in its statement on Tuesday.

The 2025 goal marked a 10 percent increase from the previous year’s target of 55,000. According to the Army, average daily contract signings were 56 percent higher than during the same period last year.

“I’m incredibly proud of our US Army recruiters and drill sergeants,” said Army Secretary Dan Driscoll. “Their colossal efforts and dedication to duty helped the U.S. Army accomplish our FY25 annual recruiting goal a full four months ahead of schedule.”

Recruiting had been a challenge in recent years under the Biden administration. According to a report by Army Times, the service brought in 44,901 active-duty soldiers in 2022, falling short of its 60,000 goal. In 2023, it recruited 54,000, 11,000 shy of its 65,000 “stretch goal.” But in 2024, the service exceeded its target by 11,000. The army has now met its retention goals for seven consecutive years.

Driscoll also thanked President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, saying, “I want to thank the commander in chief, President Trump, and Secretary of Defense Hegseth for their decisive leadership and support in equipping, training and supporting these future Soldiers as they face a world of global uncertainty and complex threats.”

“Putting soldiers first is having a tangible impact and shows that young people across our country want to be part of the most lethal land fighting force the world has ever seen,” he added.

In February, Hegseth revealed that the Army had its best recruiting numbers in over a decade in December 2024 and January 2025, attributing the momentum to American youth’s desire to serve under “the bold and strong ‘America First’ leadership” of President Trump.
