Luigi Mangione indicted on federal murder charges in killing of Brian Thompson

Luigi Mangione has been indicted on federal charges in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

The indictment came down on Thursday, where the alleged murderer was indicted on one count of murder with a firearm as well as two counts of stalking, and another firearm offense.

The indictment read, "Mangione traveled across state lines via an interstate bus line for the purpose of stalking and killing" the CEO. The document also read that he "used a cellphone, interstate wire, interstate highways, a hostel that serves interstate customers, and the internet to carry out the stalking, shooting, and killing of Brian Thompson."

Attorney General Pam Bondi last week ordered that federal prosecutors at the Department of Justice seek the death penalty for Mangione in the murder of Thompson. "After careful consideration, I have directed federal prosecutors to seek the death penalty in this case as we carry out President Trump's agenda to stop violent crime and Make America Safe Again,” she said at the time in a statement.

Since the killing, many on the far-left have grown to become fond of the suspect, who allegedly shot the CEO in the back while he was walking out of a hotel on December 4 last year. This is in line with a recent survey that found that 55 percent of left-leaning voters in the US said that it is "somewhat justified" to kill President Donald Trump. The poll was tracking the "assassination culture" in the United States and also addressed positive feelings of some for Mangione.

Mangione was later apprehended by police in Altoona, Pennsylvania on December 9. Mangione’s lawyers have filed motions asking that the death penalty option be removed in his case and have argued that the US government wants to kill Mangione “as a political stunt.”

He has pleaded not guilty to 11 different charges that were brought against him by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office.
