The Trump administration has asked the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to revoke Harvard University’s tax-exempt status.
Sources within the Justice Department reportedly told Fox News that the Ivy League school's failure to address concerns over antisemitism on campus is grounds for losing its 501(c)(3) status.
On Wednesday, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem also announced the cancellation of two agency grants to Harvard totaling over $2.7 million. Noem said in a statement, "This action follows President Donald J. Trump's decision to freeze $2.2 billion in federal funding to Harvard University, proposing the revocation of its tax-exempt status over its radical ideology."
Earlier this week, the US Joint Task Force to combat antisemitism froze $2.2 billion in grants to Harvard after the university rejected the federal government’s policy demands to address antisemitism on campus.
Harvard University President Alan Garber announced Monday that the institution had rejected the demands from the antisemitism task force letter that conditioned continued financial relationships with the government.
Garber wrote, “We have informed the administration through our legal counsel that we will not accept their proposed agreement. The university will not surrender its independence or relinquish its constitutional rights.”
President Donald Trump recently wrote on Truth Social that Harvard had "lost its way" and didn't deserve federal funding. Trump wrote, "Harvard has been hiring almost all woke, Radical Left, idiots and ‘birdbrains’ who are only capable of teaching FAILURE to students and so-called ‘future leaders.’ Look just to the recent past at their plagiarizing President, who so greatly embarrassed Harvard before the United States Congress."
The president continued, "Many others, like these Leftist dopes, are teaching at Harvard, and because of that, Harvard can no longer be considered even a decent place of learning, and should not be considered on any list of the World’s Great Universities or Colleges."
"Harvard is a JOKE, teaches Hate and Stupidity, and should no longer receive Federal Funds."
