Conor McGregor says Ireland has ‘abandoned’ the Irish people during White House visit

MMA legend Conor McGregor made an appearance at the White House for St. Patrick’s Day and is scheduled to meet with President Donald Trump later in the day, reports RTE.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt introduced McGregor, confirming that he would be meeting with the president and other administration officials.

McGregor stated that he was in Washington "to raise the issues the people of Ireland face." He criticized the Irish government, saying it has "abandoned the voices of the people of Ireland" and called for the United States to take notice of what he described as a "travesty" happening in Ireland.

McGregor also spoke out about Ireland’s immigration policies and the government's policies on asylum seekers, saying that “the illegal immigration racket is ravaging the country."

Leavitt praised McGregor’s presence at the White House on St. Patrick's Day, stating, "We couldn't think of a better guest to have with us." She also noted that she would provide further details on his meeting with Trump later in the day.

Speaking alongside McGregor in the White House Press Briefing Room, Leavitt mentioned that he would be spending the day in Washington, meeting with additional administration officials.

"We're both wearing our green, this was not planned, but very festive," she said.
