The Lynnwood City Council said on Tuesday that it would be holding a meeting on March 13 to discuss rescinding Roberts' appointment after receiving nationwide backlash over its decision to select Roberts for the council. However, the city council released a statement just hours before the meeting was set to occur, announcing that Roberts had withdrawn candidacy.
"This afternoon, the City was informed that Ms. Roberts has removed her name from consideration for the City Council. Tonight's Council Special Business Meeting will still be held as scheduled. We will provide more information on the next steps to fill the vacant Council position soon," the council wrote in a statement to KOMO 4 News.
