The incident occurred just before 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning when 49-year-old Trevor Hughes and 46-year-old convicted felon Lavar Davis began to argue. According to reports, Davis parked his car in a way that was blocking a spot that Hughes paid a neighbor to park in regularly, as it was located outside of Hughes' house.
Prosecutors revealed Monday morning that Davis initially fled the scene of the crime. Police were able to track him and make the arrest later on at his girlfriend's house.
At Davis' arraingment, Bronx Assistant District Attorney Lawrence Rozenblum said, “When police officers went to find the defendant there he barricaded himself in the apartment and refused to come out voluntarily, requiring the police to send in the Emergency Services Unit to get him out."
Davis previously served over 24 years in prison for murder out of Schenectady, NY. He was released from the Attica Correctional Facility in 2019. Rozenblum noted that Davis was on lifetime parol at the time of this incident. “He was also separately sentenced to an assault in the first degree and received a concurrent sentence of between 10 to 20 years, also out of Schenectady County,” Rozenblum said.
Davis is now being held without bail and is due in court on Friday.
There were "no parking" signs affixed to the fence in front of the spot Davis parked in that Hughes paid to use, which is outside of his house. Absolutto nightclub is located around the corner from Hughes' home and the parking spot. When he came home and found a car parked in his spot, he went to the nightclub to report the car, then waited by it with his girlfriend.
An argument ensued. A neighbor, Rose Marie, was able to see the incident on her surveillance cameras. “The guy goes, ‘What’s going on? You wanna get it out? I get [the gun] out for you,’ and then, boom, boom, boom,” Rose Marie said. “Right in front of his own house, over a parking spot. And the cops came with an ambulance because they beat up the girlfriend. They beat the hell out of her.”
“You know what’s happening here with New York City, that working-class people are being murdered by criminals and it’s not fair for the people that work. You know, I hope that Trump can look at what’s happening in New York City and bring the death penalty here."
His brother continued, “This is a working-class community here. Everybody here works, and this club here around the corner has been a continuous problem. People here have been continuously reporting complaints. The thing is it’s not just this alone. It’s everywhere. It’s happening everywhere where you start reporting all these senseless murders of innocent people, kids, innocent kids getting killed.
“He took all the steps that you’re supposed to take when you want a car removed from blocking your driveway. A patrol car came, and all they had to do was ticket the vehicle. “Ticket the vehicle, get it towed, and that’s it. All he wanted to do was get inside so he could get four hours of sleep Then he had to be up again to DJ for a brunch.”
